Mauro Colantonio (1994) is an italian gambist, flutist and bagpipe player, who currently resides in Vienna. He focuses his work on rich continuo playing and historical improvisation, from early renaissance to late baroque repertoire. He graduated with top marks from the "Claudio Abbado" music school in Milan, under the guidance of Marco Brolli and Rodney Prada. He subsequently moved to Amsterdam, where he obtained his Master's degree with Marten Root and at the same time studied at the Mozarteum in Salzburg in the class of Vittorio Ghielmi. His career as a soloist, continuo and ensemble player, conductor and arranger leads him to collaborate regularly with numerous ensembles, including Il Giardino Armonico (Giovanni Antonini), Cappella Mediterranea (Leonardo García Alarcón), l'Arpeggiata (Christina Pluhar), Cantar lontano (Marco Mencoboni), il Suonar Parlante (Vittorio Ghielmi), la Fonte Musica (Michele Pasotti), la Divine Armonia (Lorenzo Ghielmi), Cappella Claudiana (Luca Pianca) and many others. Among his latest recording projects, he recorded for Decca with il Giardino Armonico de Cavalieri's Rappresentatione di anima et di Corpo, the sacred motets of Barbara Strozzi with the Florida Capella and with Marco Mencoboni a project on the music of Stefano Landi. As guest artistic director of the Croatian Baroque Ensemble he recorded an album on Telemann's music and influences of eastern European traditional music.
